In Kananga, capital of Kasai-Central province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), grain trader Gidele is seeing business boom — thanks to a road built by Chinese companies.

The 230-kilometer road connecting Kananga to the Angolan border city of Kalambambuji, a vital corridor for cross-border trade and goods transport, was previously unpaved. During rainy seasons, trucks would get stuck for days, driving up logistics costs and pushing food prices 30% higher than current levels.
这条连接卡南加与安哥拉边境城市卡兰巴姆布吉的公路全长约230公里，此前为未硬化道路。雨季泥泞难行，物流成本高昂，粮价比现在高出约30%。
"The road is not just pavement — it's the foundation for locals to improve their lives," said Pang Long, chairman of China-Congo Infrastructure Construction Co., Ltd., the project's main contractor. Constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 14, the road meets two-lane asphalt concrete standards and completed interim passability in June 2025.
"这条路修的不只是路面，更是当地民众改善生活的基础。"项目总承包方中刚基础设施建设股份有限公司董事长庞龙说。该公路按双向两车道沥青混凝土标准建设，由中国水电十四局负责施工，已于2025年6月完成保通工程。
Long-haul truck driver Kabanda said a 200km trip from Kananga to the Angolan border used to take 10+ days during rainy season, destroying tires and engines. Now, logistics costs have dropped significantly, with price reductions quickly passed to consumers.
长途货运司机卡班达说，以前从卡南加到安哥拉边境200多公里路程，雨季一趟要走十几天。如今物流成本大幅下降，价格很快就传导到了市场。
DRC President Felix Tshisekedi called it a "Road of Hope" during his December 2024 inspection and reaffirmed support during a follow-up visit in January 2026. The road project has stimulated local farming, with new cornfields emerging along the route as collection buyers multiply.
